Minority Student Success With a New York State of Mind

Students at a certain college in the city that never sleeps are being set up for success through a special program that connects them with coastal resilience experts.

New York City College of Technology joined other minority-serving institutions late last month in curating federally sponsored summer research opportunities.

Schools sporting that classification are apt to be paired with education assets administered by the Department of Homeland Security in support of national interests.

Among those assets are research groups like the Coastal Resilience Center and Maritime Security Center that understand the unique challenges faced by cities near shorelines.

Both the CRC and MSC have already put personnel and resources toward crafting curricula for students at City Tech with an interest in coastal hazards mitigation.

Partnerships between those parties are expected to last much longer than a New York minute as their collaborative research efforts continue into the fall semester.
